2026-09-14T00:00:00Z

5 5

Seoul is a city with plenty of soul. A vibrant blend of old and new where skyscrapers sit alongside centuries-old temples. For first-time visitors to South Korea, it's a destination that offers the best of both worlds. Spend your mornings wandering royal palaces, your afternoons exploring traditional villages and trendy neighbourhoods, and your evenings sampling street food beneath the glow of neon lights.

Whether you're drawn by history, shopping, food or culture, here's how to experience the very best of Seoul in five unforgettable days.

DAY 1 - Palaces & Villages

Begin your Seoul adventure at Gyeongbokgung Palace, the largest and most iconic of the city's five grand royal palaces. Arrive early to watch the colourful Royal Guard Changing Ceremony before exploring the impressive grounds. For a truly Seoul experience, rent a hanbok (Korea’s traditional dress) from the nearby shops around Gyeongbokgung Station before entering. Not only does it make for memorable holiday photos, but visitors wearing a hanbok also receive free admission to the palace.

Then make your way to Bukchon Hanok Village, one of Seoul's most picturesque neighbourhoods. As you wander its winding laneways, you'll find traditional hanok homes, hidden cafés, and scenic views over the city. Finish the afternoon in nearby Insa-dong, a lively neighbourhood known for its tea houses, art galleries, and artisan stores selling ceramics, handmade jewellery, and keepsakes.

DAY 2 - Markets & Korean BBQ

No visit to Seoul is complete without experiencing its incredible food culture.

Gwangjang Market is one of Korea's oldest traditional markets and a paradise for food lovers. Wander through the lively stalls serving freshly made bindaetteok (mung bean pancakes), kalguksu (hand-cut noodles served in a hot broth), and addictive mayak gimbap (seaweed and rice rolls filled with various ingredients).

As evening arrives, experience another local favourite, Korean BBQ. Gather around the grill to cook premium cuts of meat at your table before wrapping them in fresh lettuce with garlic, kimchi and ssamjang sauce. It's one of Seoul's most social dining experiences and a must for first-time visitors. Top spots include Geumdwaeji Sikdang (Golden Pig), Ggupdang near Sinsa Station and Wangbijip in Myeongdong, each offering its own take on Seoul's iconic Korean BBQ experience.

DAY 3 - Iconic Seoul Sights

Today is all about discovering Seoul's contemporary side. Begin with a visit to N Seoul Tower, perched high above the city on Namsan Mountain. Whether you take the cable car or enjoy the scenic walk through Namsan Park, the panoramic views across Seoul are well worth the trip.

Next, head to the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP). Designed by renowned architect Zaha Hadid, its flowing futuristic curves have made it one of Seoul's most photographed landmarks. The precinct regularly hosts exhibitions, fashion shows, design markets and cultural events, making it a must-visit for lovers of architecture, design and contemporary culture.

Seoul is one of Asia's great shopping destinations, and today offers the perfect opportunity to indulge. Start in Myeongdong in the heart of Seoul, where K-beauty stores, fashion boutiques and department stores line bustling pedestrian streets. Alongside global brands, you'll find some of Korea's most popular skincare and cosmetics labels, making it a favourite stop for beauty lovers.

Later, head to Hongdae, one of Seoul's most energetic neighbourhoods. Famous for its independent boutiques, vintage stores, trendy cafés and vibrant street performances, it's the perfect place to spend an afternoon wandering without a strict itinerary. As the sun sets, the streets fill with live music, the aroma of Korean BBQ and a lively mix of bars, cafés and late-night lounges.

DAY 5 - Bakeries & Bathhouses

Spend your final day experiencing a slower side of the city. Start with warm Korean salt bread and coffee from one of the city's much-loved bakeries before wandering beside Cheonggyecheon Stream, a peaceful urban waterway that flows through the centre of the city. Lined with walking paths, public art and shaded seating, it's a favourite escape for locals looking to slow down.
